Our Valuable Administrative Members
I am thrilled to join the St. Mary’s community this year! Catholicism has always been a huge part of my life and I look forward to growing with the school in our identity. I received my bachelor’s degree with a dual major of education and political science. I taught middle school social studies for five years just outside of Denver, CO before coming to Madison to complete a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. I have a passion for working with both students and teachers and each year hope to continue the awesome legacy of St. Mary’s. Outside of education, I enjoy sports (yes, I am a Packer fan!) and love to travel. I look forward engaging in personalized learning this year, which will involve each teacher looking at the strengths and growth areas for the students in their classes and developing goals while also receiving student input on how those goals are best accomplished. We will be challenging all students to discover their own strengths, who will work with their instructors to grow and flourish. Additionally, I look forward to advancing our student learning through technology. It is my goal that these devices do not act as a replacement to paper, pencils, and textbooks, but rather transform the learning experiences for our students by empowering them to create, providing spaces to harness collaboration, and immerse themselves in a variety of learning-based media. I look forward to learning, growing, and serving with each of you.
I have been the school secretary at St. Mary School for over 35 years. My husband and I are members of St. Mary Parish and both of our daughters are graduates of the school. I have had the pleasure of working with great priests, principals, teachers, parents and students. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my grandchildren.

Having lived in South Africa most of my life, I moved to Janesville with my husband, Alan, and daughter, Caitlyn, in 2005. Caitlyn and my son, Alistair, are both currently at St. Mary’s School. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Journalism, but have been a stay-at-home mom for the past ten years prior to working in the St. Mary’s School office. St. Mary’s has always been such a welcoming place for our family and I am excited to be a part of the wonderful staff here! In my spare time, I can be found at various kids’ sporting activities, arranging and making photo books, and cooking.
Our Valuable Teachers
I am originally from Chicago. My family and I moved due to a job change for my Husband in March 2014. In January 2015, I started as the Afternoon and After School Supervisor. Then in August 2016, I became the Pre-K 3 Aide. I love working with the little ones and watching them learn! On my off time, I enjoy spending time with my Husband and Family. I have two little girls, ages 10 and 8 and we all love finding new adventures in Wisconsin!
I am so happy to be a part of St. Mary’s Family and Faith based school. I have my Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development. I attended the University of Rock County College and Blackhawk Technical College. I am the mother of three kids, who are ages 11, 15, and 21. I love working in the Pre-K room and Extended Care!
I have been the kindergarten teacher at St. Mary’s for the past seven years. I graduated in 2009 with a B.S.E. and I am licensed to teacher both regular education and special education. Before becoming a teacher, I worked 10 years as a classroom assistant helping students with special challenges. Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time hiking, fishing, and playing games with my family.
I have enjoyed teaching the learning basics to first graders for over 20 years. In addition to teaching at Saint Mary’s, I have also experienced Saint Mary’s as parent, having both of my children attend Saint Mary’s Pre-K through 8th grade. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my husband, two children, and several pets. I keep busy reading, crafting, gardening, and attending my children’s sporting events.
Susan Venable is the Second Grade teacher at St. Mary’s School since 2006. She is a graduate of U.W. Whitewater with degrees in Elementary Ed., Special Ed., and Business Administration. She is the Owner/Operator of Venable Farms, Inc., a beef and cash crop farm east of Janesville, WI. Susan is the proud mother of her adult children Nick, Teddy, and Sarah. She is now the proud grandmother of three grandchildren!
My name is Renee Gilmore and I am currently the 4th Grade teacher at St. Mary School. I have enjoyed being a part of this wonderful school for more than 20 years, beginning with my four adult children all graduating from SMS, and then working in the classrooms since 2006. I like to spend my spare time reading, gardening, and being outdoors.
I was born in Rockford, Illinois and graduated from UW-Whitewater with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in mathematics. Prior to teaching at St. Mary’s I completed my student teaching in Beloit. I am so excited to teach here at St. Mary’s and look forward to a wonderful school year!
I grew up and attended Catholic school in Rockford, IL. I went on to receive my Bachelor’s Degree in Education from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. I look forward to another school year with the supportive families at St. Mary’s. I enjoy reading and art in my free time.
I attended UW-Whitewater, where I received my Bachelors Degree in Education. I have spent my entire teaching career at Beloit Memorial High School. I started as a Special Education Teacher and eventually accepted a position as a Math Teacher. My husband, Josh and I have three daughters, Paige, Kenedi and Oakleigh. Having been a St. Mary’s parent first, I am excited to have the opportunity to teach here. I look forward to getting to know even more of the wonderful students and families we have here.
I have been teaching middle school since 1999, when I graduated from UW Whitewater with a bachelor degree in education – English being my primary focus. In 2012, I went back to school for a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, thus expanding my philosophy of teaching and education altogether. After spending 15 years teaching grades 5-8 in the public school, I’ve come to realize that the religious – faith driven – aspect of developing the whole child is missing. God continues to nudge me closer to Him and the work He has in store for me. My job in the classroom is to foster and cultivate a passion for learning.
I have taught for 40 years with 38 of those years here at St. Mary’s, with the majority as Media Specialist. Last year I retired, but was offered a part time position as librarian, which I gladly accepted. Reading is one of my passions, and I hope to pass on that love of reading to the students of St. Mary’s.
Born in Santiago (Chile) but I have lived most of my life in Spain. I attended an American boarding school in Murcia (Spain) and then I received my Bachelor’s Degree in History, Master’s degree in Philosophy and PhD in Philosophy at the University of Murcia. I am excited to teach the students as much Spanish as possible, letting them know about the cultural aspects of the Spanish speaking countries.
I attended St. Patrick Catholic School and enjoyed creating relationships that have lasted over the years. I received my Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Science from Edgewood College in 2005. I taught Grades 4, 5, and 3rd Grade math at Brother Dutton in Beloit. From there, I moved to Arizona and taught Grades 2 and 4 for five years. I am now the Technology Teacher and 2nd Grade Religion Teacher. I am looking forward to a wonderful year at St. Mary’s!
