Our Valuable Teachers
Growing up in Lake Geneva, I attended St. Francis De Sales from Pre-K to 8th grade. I loved my catholic school experience! The building created a family and it always felt like home. Following 8th grade, I then attended Badger High School for 4 years and moved on to UW-Milwaukee for my college degree in Early Childhood Education.

I have been teaching middle school since 1999, when I graduated from UW Whitewater with a bachelor degree in education – English being my primary focus. Having spent 15 years teaching grades 5-8 in the public school, I’ve come to realize that the religious – faith driven – aspect of developing the whole child is missing. God continues to bring me closer to Him and the work He has in store for me. My job in the classroom is to foster and cultivate a passion for learning.
I have taught for 40 years with 38 of those years here at St. Mary’s, with the majority as Media Specialist. Last year I retired, but was offered a part time position as librarian, which I gladly accepted. Reading is one of my passions, and I hope to pass on that love of reading to the students of St. Mary’s.
It is with great pleasure that I, Karla Vriezen, return for my second year as the music teacher. It is a joy to share my love of music with the students and staff of St. Mary’s. I look forward to another exciting year with new opportunities for growth in music education, and musical productions that will bring excitement and joy to all students at St. Mary’s.
Born in Santiago (Chile) but I have lived most of my life in Spain.
